Some had prepared for this moment before; on the beaches of Normandy, in the olive groves of Italy, the Chosin Reservoir in Korea, in the jungles of Vietnam, on the desert sand surrounding Kuwait and the Abas Ghar ridge of Afghanistan. Spanning time and generations men and women served and prepared for the ultimate sacrifice. Their preparation brought them to another place, another time a final mission. This year Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice served over 400 veterans, mentoring them in the last months, weeks and days of a journey prepared for long ago. “Tree of Life” donations impact the lives of over 2,000 patients, and 10,000 family members and caregivers every year. Some are veterans, some are children, and some are homeless. They are friends, relatives and neighbors. All are walking the final journey and all desire physical comfort, emotional support and mentoring for the unknown path.
