Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Volunteering

A great way to join hundreds of other volunteers involved in the heart of the matter!

What volunteers do:

There are many ways to be supportive of patients and families coping with terminal illness:  pharmacy delivery, visiting with a patient and maybe reading to him/her, helping to write down special memories, playing live or recorded music, giving a hand massage, providing transportation or running errands.  Some volunteers stay with patients so the caregivers can have some time away, but volunteers do not do personal care. 

Other supportive areas that indirectly serve patients and families include: office & clerical assignments, helping with information booths at health fairs, giving general presentations in the community about our hospice work, sewing together memory quilts for children, and preparing and freezing food for emergency support to families.

The Process

Our volunteers get the same respect as our professional staff since we go through the same thorough process to find and train our volunteers: Application, References, Interview, Orientation, Training and Placement. 

Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice always welcomes new volunteers in our twenty-five county service area.
